Matt: Jeweled Lotus
Flute Musician & DJ
Matt and I began this photoshoot the way many of my sessions begin — not with photography, but with listening.
Matt came to me wanting authentic photos— capturing why and how he creates music. So I asked him what authenticity feels like in his body.
He said it feels like ease, power, and freedom. The ability to move slowly or quickly. To change fluidly.
To feel his essence expressed through his whole being. From there we translated sensation into image. Blue for honesty, calm, and groundedness. Green for nourishment, heart, and connection to earth.
The heartbeat of Matt’s music is to evoke reverence in his listeners. As I guided Matt to listen to his body’s experience of reverence, we identified that reverence: Is that feeling of awe when the boundaries between self and land dissolve. A current rising from the heart, through the third eye, into inspiration.
Matt’s flute carries that prayer.
The double exposures are an attempt to make visible what his music already calls in: The knowing that we do not stand on the earth.
We belong to it.
